motion sensor through 5-7m 5-wire cable

hi everyone!

 

i would like to create alarm. The problem is that the cables in the wall (to the rooms in the apartement from a central point) are 5-10m long, 5 wire, shielded(for standard motion detector). What sensors -bricklets can I use with this cable?

    I've found out that using a standard IO-16 bricklet with standard motion detector could do the job. maybe I've to use 5V (step down power supply) because of the resistance of the length of the cable. Does anyone have experiance with this?
