JavaLaurence Posted November 14, 2014 at 06:01 PM Share Posted November 14, 2014 at 06:01 PM Hi, Another PSU question. I'm hearing an extremely high pitched whistle from the PSU powering my LED strip. Since my LED strip is used in a wall clock, I cannot have *any* sound coming off the setup... Googling for the subject turns up lots of hits, but I was wondering if there's anything easy I can do to this particular TF model to stop the whistling? I don't know enough about electricity/electronics to try different things.. Thx.
batti Posted November 19, 2014 at 08:35 AM Share Posted November 19, 2014 at 08:35 AM Hi JavaLaurence, how does this noise change if you change the load of the PSU? (by changing the number of LEDs used) Bastian
JavaLaurence Posted November 19, 2014 at 08:53 AM Author Share Posted November 19, 2014 at 08:53 AM The whistle attributes (pitch, volume) didn't seem to correlate with any loading of the LEDs. But after about 20 minutes the whistle faded away. My project has been running 24/24 for nearly a week now, and the whistle hasn't returned. So maybe the PSU simply needs to warm up a bit? batti Posted November 19, 2014 at 09:42 AM Share Posted November 19, 2014 at 09:42 AM Hi JavaLaurence, typically whistle depends on the load of the PSU. Of course its temperature will also affect it. It is good to know that your whistling seems now to be over.
